ABOUT
Code4Cause is a single-day hackathon for 100 participants that provides opportunity for learning, networking, and innovating. Teams will be creating novel solutions for social issues from the ground up in an open environment. People will have opportunity to gain feedback by pitching their ideas in front of industry professionals and leverage their projects for their technical growth. Over $3,500 will be distributed in prizes and swag!
C4C is hosted Youth for STEM Equity, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting experiential STEM education, in partnership with OHI/O. All proceeds from the event will be used to provide free informal STEM education to underserved communities throughout Ohio.

What is a hackathon?A hackathon is an event where individuals or teams collaborate intensively over a set time period to develop innovative solutions to real-world problems. Participants, often including developers, designers, and entrepreneurs, work on software or hardware projects. Hackathons usually have a theme or challenge (e.g., social good, healthcare, artificial intelligence), and teams present their projects to judges for prizes or recognition. These events foster creativity, learning, networking, and problem-solving and are popular in both industry and academia.

Who can participate?University students with an interest in coding, innovation, and social impact! Whether you are a beginner or an experienced developer, you are welcome to join!

Do I need to have coding experience?Fundamental coding experience would be required to jump start creation of project but by no means you have a to an expert. The hackathon provides an environment where you will grow and foster your skills to produce a solution. Judges will provide feedback along the way to improve your product's quality.

How much does it cost to participate?Code4Cause is completely free for all participants!

Can I participate as an individual or do I need a team?You can participate either as an individual or as part of a team (maximum 4 people per team). If you don’t have a team, we will have a team formation session at the beginning of the event to help you find one.

What should I bring?Bring a laptop, charger, and any other tech tools you might need.

How are projects judged?Projects will be judged based on innovation, impact, feasibility, and technical execution. Alongside their project, someone will create a short presentation to demo their solution. Teams will have the opportunity to conduct a 4-min pitch on stage in front of industry professionals for feedback.

Will there be food and refreshments?Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will provided to all participants!

Will there be any swag?All participants will receive an event t-shirt, stickers, and other goodies in a bag for them to keep. Everyone will have an opportunity to meet and take a picture with Brutus too!

Who gets the prizes if there are multiple people on my team!Youth for STEM Equity will provide the prize to each person (maximum of four) if your team wins :)

Is there parking at the event?We do not provide parking accommodations for there event. There are paid street parking and garage options nearby. The closest garage to the venue would be Union North Garage and Gateway Garage.

How does this event support underserved communities?Any money raised during the hackathon from Code4Cause go toward Youth for STEM Equity’s initiatives to provide free STEM education to underserved communities in Ohio. By participating, you help make STEM education more accessible!
